where we work

Since 2018, Rakshan has worked with 65,000 people in 27 villages of rajasthan, India.

Rakshan brings change deep into patriarchal India.

In the western Indian state of Rajasthan, in the middle of India’s tourist triangle, just 100 kilometres away from the pink city of Jaipur a community forces all its girls into sex work.

Girls as young as 13 years old, dressed in bright clothes and amateur make up, stand outside single-room shacks lining the road.

Each day, for as long as this region remembers, girls of a particular tribal community have been doing just that.

Barely 5% of the girls escape sex work. Living under extreme poverty, they are isolated from the scope of existing development programs and outreach efforts.

The lack of employment opportunities, education, awareness and institutionalisation of commercial sex work within the community are the major reasons that prompt the girls to enter into this occupation.

Our intervention program is empowering the complete ecosystem which helps the girls to reclaim their lives and directly prevents them from becoming victims of trafficking and child marriage.
